I lived for 48 years devout (in my eyes) to my religion, but not to God. I was a slave. I was a slave to Rules, to doctrine. All of it, manmade. I knew God. But I never knew His Son. Without knowing Jesus, I couldn’t know the Hope that we all have in Him. He came to set the captives FREE! If I could grow up in this religious environment and not know Our Jesus, Our Hope, imagine how many other so-called “Believers” aren’t really Believers at all. We are called as the true conversions to share the Gospel with a lost and dying world. Someone shared it with me while I was deep into my doctrine, but not my God. And only because God gave that man, my friend Will, the Great Commission, am I still here.. Alive.. To encourage you to do the same.
Today, I’m no longer a slave to fear. I am a Child of God. But not everyone is. We make the mistake of giving folks the title before they’ve actually accepted it… Fully accepted it by giving all – all of their Life to Christ. And once you do that, you are called to do what Will did for me.. Speak God’s Truth. Share the Gospel with the whole world! And that’s pretty uncomfortable. Once His Holy Spirit is alive in you, you can no longer let derogatory remarks about God slide, or untruths about what Salvation really looks like (how we get to Heaven), or watch those you love and those you don’t even know, slide into sin, drown in their sin and falter in idolatry and false doctrines. For if we let them slide, we bear some of the responsibility for their torment in hell. There are several places in God’s Word where we are commanded to share the Gospel with the world:
“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.'” – Mark 16:15
“Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.” – Psalms 96:3
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28L19-20
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” – Matthew 24:14
When we go out among the world as Christians, freed from the bondage of our sins, we will still feel the oppression of the world’s sinful system. With discernment from His Holy Spirit, we will sense and even see the darkness manifest before our very eyes. Do not be moved. As uncomfortable as it is to identify with the wickedness we see in the world, like abortion, may we be like Nehemiah (See Book of Nehemiah, Old Testament) and humbly shed the frail armor of false strength that’s failed to serve us in this world, but, better yet, embrace our weakness! Now get this.. That weakness is meant to be an INVITATION to RECEIVE what we don’t have: God’s Strength; His Amor; His Protection. That weakness was exploited by Satan who suggested to us that weakness, itself, is a flaw to be covered up and denied at all costs. How brilliant was that? He tempted us with sin, then talked us into hiding it with what I believe is his greatest weapon: SHAME. If you recall, he did this in the Garden of Eden, forcing Adam and Eve to cover their naked bodies when God called out to them after they had sinned against Him. Satan’s game hasn’t changed. He’s got the same moves and the same plays today.
But I want to encourage you! I have been there myself.. Many times and for many, many years! My sins of fornication, lying, stealing, abortion, idolatry, and more.. All imprisoned me in shame. You can break free! But first, you must give all of your shame and guilt to Jesus. His shoulders can bear it. Ours cannot. As humans, we grow weak and weary from the burden, leaving us to choose sin again and again because we feel unworthy of God’s Love and unworthy of the Forgiveness granted us by Jesus Christ’s Sacrifice on The Cross. His act of Selfless Love on The Cross paid my (our) debt in full. You are worthy of forgiveness and God’s Grace! Satan will tell you otherwise. Do not believe it. It’s a lie straight from the pit of hell. Jesus has the Victory! He has beaten sin on The Cross and death in the Grave. He rose from the dead after His violent Crucifixion.. This is Good News!
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
How do we free ourselves? How do we go from slave to Freedom? Simply admit you’re a sinner, ask Jesus to forgive you of all of your sins and invite Him into your Life. His ways are far above our ways. Let Him take over. I had made a mess of my Life. Once I let Jesus take control, I began to see chaos turned into calm. Read the Infallible Word of God every day. The Bible is your guide to anything and everything that has, or ever will, happen to you in this fallen world.
And, finally.. Remember who the author of confusion and chaos is.. The enemy. Your adversary. Put on The Armor of God every single day. (See Ephesians 6:10-18)
My prayer for all.. Louder than the chaos and calamities of the raging temper tantrums thrown by the prince of this age who’s time is nearly up, may we recognize the Voice of the Good Father and King!.. He who sought our companionship even while we live(d) in sin, hiding from Him, naked in our shame – calling us back to communion with Him. We are as close to Him as conversation (talk to Him!) and as near to Him as our turned attention (Pray!). Dear Lord, draw us closer.
I am praying for you to be freed from the bondage of sin and shame and that you will feel the Forgiveness, Mercy and Grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am no longer a slave to sin. I want that Freedom for you. Time is short.
